City of Welland Pushes for More Vaccines

Officials with the City of Welland wrote to Premier Doug Ford, asking him to provide more vaccines to Niagara.

Mayor Frank Campion, along with CAO Steve Zorbas and Fire Chief Adam Eckhart, say more needs to be done to protect the community.

"The Niagara Region experiences a high volume of travelers coming from outside our region as many arrive to take in our sights and outdoor amenities. This, in addition to our close proximity to the United States border, where essential travel is permitted, has resulted in an influx of people to our region. With this in mind, we respectfully and urgently request your support in providing additional shipments of vaccines to help control the spread of infection and protect our community."

The letter also asks the Premier to consider designating Welland as a hot spot.

Welland currently has one of the highest case counts in the region, with 328 active cases as of today.

Only St. Catharines has more active cases.
