Burch Writes Letter to Ontario Health Minister

Niagara Centre MPP Jeff Burch says frontline health care workers should be compensated if they're exposed to COVID-19 while on the job.

He's calling on the province to remove a directive which tells hospitals to stop paying employees when they self-report a COVID-19 exposure and go into self-isolation.

He they should still receive full pay so they don't have to choose whether to report a potential exposure or put food on their tables.

"Health care workers are risking their safety to care for the people of this province, and it is absolutely shameful that this government will not even compensate them when they are exposed to COVID-19. Cases are rising and the risk is increasing, yet with holidays around the corner this government has decided to cut corners on the backs of front line health care workers."

Burch wrote a letter to Health Minister Christine Elliott about this last week.
