Canadian Viral Hepatitis Elimination Day – Community Awareness Event
Please join us for free food, refreshments, give away and lots of fun for everyone!
• Both events will include education about the services offered by Niagara Health’s Hepatitis C Care clinic, other resources for hepatitis C, liver health and addiction and mental health services in the region, private testing and a community health and social services fair, with a variety of community partners and programs represented.
• Clinic’s Outreach Team from the clinic will offer private hepatitis C testing
• The Screen for Life Coach will also be at both events.

Niagara Health’s Hepatitis C Care Clinic is part of the Addiction Services Program. Each year, the department recognizes World Hepatitis Day on July 28 to raise awareness of the viral hepatitis and the global effort to eliminate it. This year, the department is also recognizing Canadian Viral Hepatitis Elimination Day on May 9. - 2024
Hepatitis C Awareness
• Niagara’s rate of hepatitis C is higher than the provincial average.
• While thousands of Canadians are infected, many are not aware and remain undiagnosed.
• Hepatitis C is spread when blood carrying the virus gets into the bloodstream of another person. The virus attacks the liver and if left untreated can result in the development of cirrhosis, chronic liver failure, liver cancer, and in some cases death.
• Hepatitis C is a preventable and curable infection if detected early enough. It is important to be tested if you think you may have been exposed.
Niagara Health - Hepatitis C Care Clinic - Providing Care Across All Of Niagara
• The Hepatitis C Care clinic opened in 2011 and provides testing, treatment, case management, counselling and support, and education and workshops.
• The Hepatitis C Care clinic works closely with community partners to provide education, support and testing across Niagara.
• This is the second year Niagara Health is recognizing Canadian Viral Hepatitis Elimination Day.
